Alcohol misuse
The Department of Health is responsible for Government health policy on alcohol misuse. You can find further information about the Department’s work in the pages below.
The Home Office works with the Police to enforce the law relating to alcohol-related crime and disorder, especially focusing on problem premises and under-age sales.
What we do
The Department of Health is committed to tackling alcohol misuse through a wide range of initiatives.
Safe, Sensible, Social – Consultation on further action
The Government’s renewed alcohol strategy, Safe.Sensible.Social (June 2007), outlines national and local action to achieve long-term reductions in alcohol-related ill health and crime. Government committed to carrying out three reviews of industry practice and then to consult on whether there is a need for further regulation of alcohol retailing.

Know Your Limits – New campaign launched!
We have launched our biggest ever advertising campaign on alcohol and health. The new Know Your Limits campaign raises awareness of units and provides advice for when you have a drink.
