The Programme Budgeting project provides a retrospective appraisal of NHS resources broken down into 'programmes', with a view to influencing and tracking future expenditure in those same programmes to achieve the greatest health improvement per £ spent in the NHS.
The aim of the project is to develop a source of information which can be used by all bodies, to give a greater understanding of where the money is going and what we are getting for the money we invest in the NHS.
For those new to the programme budgeting technique, this document helps reflect upon the distribution of resources across and within categories. For those who have already carried out programme budgeting, this document offers opportunity for more detailed analysis and action.
