Alternative Provider Medical Services (APMS).

APMS offers substantial opportunities for the restructuring of services to offer greater patient choice, improved access and greater responsiveness to the specific needs of the community. It will provide a valuable tool to address need in areas of historic under-provision, enable re-provision of services where practices opt out, and improve access in areas with problems with GP recruitment and retention.

Guidance on Non-GMS Contracting Arrangements for 2006/07

The purpose of this guidance is to support PCTs and SHAs (where they are the commissioners of PMS) to secure similar benefits to those achieved through the General Medical Services (GMS) contract for 2006/07, from local Personal Medical Services (PMS) and Alternative Provider Medical Services (APMS) contracts for the provision of primary medical care services.
