As of 1 January 2012 NCAAG has been renamed the National Advisory Group on Clinical Audit and Enquiries (NAGCAE).
The National Clinical Audit Advisory Group (NCAAG) was established to drive the reinvigoration programme and provide a national focus for discussion and advice on matters relating to clinical audit. The NCAAG will also advise on the DH’s National Clinical Audit and Patient Outcomes Programme (NCAPOP).

The National Clinical Audit and Patients' Outcomes Programme (NCAPOP) is administered by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP) - a consortium comprised of the Royal College of Nursing, Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and National Voices.

NCAAG, supported by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP), has made recommendations, accepted by the Department of Health on the Detection and Management of Outliers identified through national clinical audits. The recommendations are now published as guidance and set out how potentially outlying performance can be identified and develops a framework for national clinical audits to use in engaging provider organisations. The guidance also sets out the procedures to be followed should a national clinical audit identify an NHS organisation with apparently poor performance and details the actions needed, who should take them, and when.
NCAAG, working collaboratively with the NHS Information Centre, the Office for National Statistics and the Ethics and Confidentiality Committee of the National Information Goverancne Board, has prepared guidance on "Data linkage between National Clinical Audits and other databases at individual patient level".
NCAAG has provided advice to the Department on those national clinical audits that NHS provider organisations need to report on in their 2010/11 Quality Accounts

Following discussions with a range of stakeholders, NCAAG has published new guidance on the definition of clinical audit.
The Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP) has announced 6 new national clinical audits. The new audits were chosen following a call for proposaks for new national clinical audits, issued by HQIP and the National Clinical Audit Advisory Group (NCAAG).
