The NMC is an organisation set up by Parliament to protect the public by ensuring that nurses and midwives provide high standards of care to their patients and clients.
The National Nursing Research Unit (NNRU) is a multidisciplinary national centre for nursing research in England which receives funding from the Department of Health's Policy Research Programme. In 2007 the National Nursing Research Unit launched Policy+ which delivers brief overviews of evidence related to current policies affecting the nursing workforce in England, the wider United Kingdom and the rest of the world. This project was commissioned by the four UK Chief Nursing Officers to look at the future direction of midwifery. A project-dedicated website has just been launched to update all stakeholders and users on the development of the project.
