Dr Keith William Ridge MRPharmS BPharm MSc PhD became Chief Pharmaceutical Officer at the Department of Health in March 2006.
Before joining the Department of Health, Keith was Chief Pharmacist at University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. This position saw him working on a new patient centred model for pharmacy services.
Prior to his post in Birmingham, Keith was Chief Pharmacist at North Glasgow University Hospital, where he was part of the National Pharmaceutical Forum. The Forum advised both the Chief Pharmaceutical Officer for Scotland and a member of the Scottish Medicines Consortium.
Keith worked at the Department of Health earlier in his career as a professional lead on prescribing and hospital pharmacy. He has also had varying roles in community pharmacy and the pharmaceutical industry.
Keith became a registered pharmacist in 1988, after completing his training at University of London's School of Pharmacy. He continued his studies at University of Manchester, where he undertook a PhD on the evaluation of pharmacy automation.
