The deadline of the CSO Conference Awards has now been extended to give healthcare scientists more time to get their applications in. The awards will be presented by Rt Hon Alan Johnson MP, Secretary of State for Health.

The Department of Health, in partnership with the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, will hold Healthcare Science Awareness Week on 6 - 15 March 2009, with the theme to be launched at the CSO Conference in November 2008.
Under an initiative led by the Chief Scientific Officer, Professor Sue Hill, a new research fellowship scheme will provide £4 million in funding over the next three years for healthcare scientists to undertake research to improve patient services and treatment.

This note is to encourage healthcare scientists to enter the ‘Promoting Healthcare Science’ Award sponsored by the Department of Health, through the Chief Scientific Officer. Individuals or teams are encouraged to enter examples of how they have displayed imagination and creativity in promoting a career in healthcare science. Closing date: Tuesday 4th November 2008.
