The Framework for Sustainable Development on the Government Estate

  • Last modified date:
    8 February 2007
The Framework for Sustainable Development on the Government Estate relates to how Government manages its own use of resources.

The first section of the Framework covers the overarching commitments required by departments in terms of identifying their major impacts, planning improvements, and monitoring and reporting performance. Subsequent sections of the Framework have been published over the past two years, and there are now published targets covering water, travel, energy, waste, procurement, estates management and Biodiversity.  There is also a section dealing with the impact of estate management on staff and local communities.

The Framework provides a structured approach to identifying and reporting the key sustainable development impacts of departments through the management of their estates, employment of staff, and external relations with communities in which they operate. It identifies a common agenda and shared priorities for departments in contributing to sustainable development.
