Government has a responsibility to manage its huge estate sustainably, taking full account of the potentially wide-ranging economic, environmental and social impacts of its actions. This responsibility extends to the management of the built environment and land holdings; to construction and major refurbishment projects; and to disposal of land and buildings.
The aim of this Part of the Framework is to improve the way in which Departments manage their buildings and their land by taking account of sustainable development in all their activities.
The Department of Health is not planning any major new build or refurbishment projects. However, it has procedures in place to ensure that significant issues for sustainable development are identified and appropriately managed.
