New technologies: Ultra-wideband
[Archive CMO Feature - Last updated: 31/08/05]
Ultra-wideband (UWB) is the name given to a range of emerging technologies with potential applications in radar, imaging and wireless communications, particularly short-range, high-speed data transmissions suitable for broadband access to the Internet. The attractions of the technology are high data rates, low power, security and immunity from interference effects.
These systems radiate over a much broader range of frequencies than other radio systems and so the spectral density of their radiated power is much lower than with other radio systems. There is little information on exposures and the technology is still at the development stage. Frequencies are likely to be greater than 1000 MHz.
