The Ministry of Defence published an updated guide in February 2005 for general practitioners and other health professionals, to use when dealing with the health concerns of veterans of the 1990/1991 Gulf conflict.

The guide, 'Gulf Health: Information Guide for Health Professionals', includes:

  • Information on the Gulf Veterans' Medical Assessment Programme at St Thomas' Hospital, to which Gulf veterans can be referred
  • Summaries of what is known about factors to which veterans may have been exposed during their service in the Gulf
  • An overview of research carried out in areas related to Gulf veterans' illnesses

The guide, which updates previous publications issued in 1998/9 and 2001, also includes information on the measures which have been put in place to protect the health of personnel deployed to the Gulf since January 2003.

It is available:

  • On the MOD's website (see below)
  • By calling the MOD Gulf helpline on 0800 169 4495
  • Emailing sppolvpu-gvi2@mod.uk
  • Writing to Veterans Policy Unit GVI, 7th Floor, Zone H, MOD Main Building, Whitehall, London SW1A 2HB.
