Papers discuss the research knowledge on gender differences in health, why and how gender makes a difference, its impact on the presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of mental illness in primary care. The impact of gender issues for the acute hospital, in coronary heart disease, and in purchasing is also discussed. The conference highlighted the need for more research to ensure that the gender sensitive choices made about health promotion strategies, treatments and other services are good choices in terms of health outcomes, service quality, and patient satisfaction.
