This consultation paper seeks views on proposed changes to the amounts which can be recovered by National Health Service hospitals in those cases where hospital treatment has been provided to the victim of a road traffic accident and where the accident victim has gone on to claim and receive personal injury compensation. The NHS charges are met by the insurer paying compensation and not by the person receiving treatment.

The main purpose of these changes is to ensure that hospitals can more closely recover the actual cost of the treatment provided.

The paper also contains specific proposals about the future amendment of these charges.
