This document sets out the context within which providers may wish to consider promoting their services. It outlines proposals for a self-regulatory approach to promotion of NHS services, underpinned by a Code of Practice.

This will ensure that:

  • information patients receive is not misleading, inaccurate, unfair or offensive;
  • the brand and reputation of the NHS is protected; and
  • expenditure of public money on advertising and promotion is not excessive.
This Code of Practice is being launched for consultation.

We welcome your views on the proposals outlined and specifically on the questions highlighted throughout the document.
