The Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence (CHRE) is a UK-wide body, accountable to Parliament for ensuring best practice and harmonisation in the regulation of healthcare professions. It was created in legislation in 2002 and has been operational since April 2003.
The recent Health and Social Care Act amends the governance and functions of CHRE and its reformed council. The draft regulations attached to this paper lay out proposals around the membership of the reformed CHRE Council. These provide details of the terms of office of council members, criteria for the disqualification, suspension or removal of members from office, committees appointed by the Council, and transitional arrangements in terms of appointments.
Please respond using the questionnaire no later than 16 September 2008.
