European Directive 2005/36/EC was adopted on 7 September 2005 and all Member States must transpose it into domestic law by October 2007, when it will come into force. The intention behind the Directive is to make it easier for qualified professionals (architects, accountants, teachers, health professionals, etc) to practise their professions in European countries other than their own, with a minimum of red tape but with due safeguards for public health and safety and consumer protection.
