The Department of Health consultation "Changes to arrangements for regulating NHS bodies in relation to healthcare associated infections for 2009/10" came to an end on 20 October 2008.

The Department has now considered the responses to the consultation, and has reviewed policy on how NHS organisations will register with the Care Quality Commission against requirements regarding healthcare associated infections (HCAIs) in 2009/10.

This document sets out the decisions reached after considering the responses.

The Code, which comes into force on 1 April 2009, sets out how the Care Quality Commission will assess compliance with the requirements set out in the Regulations made under section 20(5) of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and provides guidance on how providers can meet the registration requirements relating to HCAI set out in the Regulations.
