This document provides the response to the consultation on draft Regulations launched in the Response to consultation on the framework for the registration of health and adult social care providers and consultation on draft Regulations

On 1 April 2009 the Care Quality Commission took over from the Healthcare Commission, the Commission for Social Care Inspection and the Mental Health Act Commission.

In spring 2009, we consulted on a set of draft Regulations, which set out the detail of a new registration system to be operated by the new Commission. For the first time, this will be a single integrated system for assuring the safety and quality of services across health and adult social care. We have amended the Regulations in the light of consultation responses and our continuing discussions with stakeholders.

The final set has now been laid before Parliament. Subject to the will of Parliament, from April 2010, the Commission will start to roll out the new registration system. The draft Regulations set out who will need to register with the new Commission (scope of registration) and what they will need to do to register and remain registered (registration requirements).
