Heath Protection: a consultation document on creating a health protection agency - Response document

After considering the points made in the responses, the decision was taken to establish the Health Protection Agency: first as a special health authority in England and Wales; and subsequently, when legislative time allows, as a non-departmental public body, which will be able to carry out a wider range of functions, including functions performed by the National Radiological Protection Board.

Consultation on establishing the Health Protection Agency as a special health authority (SHA) closed on 17 December 2002.

Over 10 000 printed copies were distributed and others accessed the paper through the internet. A bilingual Welsh-English version was also available. Over 200 responses were received.
