The Annual Report of the Department of Health

Description: provides Parliament and the public with an account of how the Department of Health has spent the resources allocated to it, as well as its future planned spend. It also describes policies and programmes and gives a breakdown of spending within these programmes. Availability: Annually in Summer. Cost: Free on DH web site and hard copy available as a priced publication from TSO.

Annual Report of the Chief Medical Officer

Description: provides an important record of the nation's health and the major challenges faced by government in tackling the main problems. Availability: Annually in Winter. Cost: Free on DH web site.

Annual report of the Chief Inspector of Social Services

Description: provides a "state of the nation" in social services. Availability: Annually to 2003. Cost: Free on DH web site and hard copy available as a priced publication from TSO. The Social Services Inspectorate's work transferred on 1 April 2004 to the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI), the new single inspectorate for social care in England. Information about reports of the Chief Inspector from 2004 can be found on the CSCI website.
