Emergency Care implements a range of programmes to improve patient care and meeting the four-hour A&E target. Programmes include the A&E Capital Incentive Scheme
A capital incentive scheme for A&E ran from March 2004 to March 2005. Under this scheme each acute NHS trust with a major A&E that met specific thresholds accessed payments of up to £0.5m.
In January 2004 a capital incentive scheme for ambulance trusts was launched. The scheme rewards ambulance trusts who make progress on achieving and maintaining the 75% Category A standard.
The Department of Health in conjunction with the Modernisation Agency has commenced a project to develop team competencies/standards and indicators for adult person-centred critical care services within England. The project commenced in March 2004 and is due to be completed with the release of a final report submission by December 2004.
