Speeches explaining the reimbursement scheme and how it can be implemented. May be of interest to staff and managers at all levels.
The first presentation was created for the roadshows supporting implementation during the shadow period. It includes practical advice on preparing for reimbursement and has a problem-solving focus. The second is a more introductory presentation which may be a useful training tool for teaching frontline staff the content and purpose of the new legislation.
The text of a speech by Steven Ladyman MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Community Care, to the Local Government Association on the subject of reimbursement is also included to give some political context.
The reimbursement team ran a series of six roadshows in November/ December 2003 to support health and social care organisations during the shadow period of implementation. The attached presentation, which was given at each of the roadshows, draws on the experience of local sites. It indicates critical factors for successful implementation of the new legislation, and shares lessons in "what works"
to produce sustained reductions in delayed transfers of care.
Attached is a presentation and speakers notes for use locally in explaining the principles and practical arrangements for implementing reimbursment. Staff to be involved in local discussion on introducing reimbursement should include hospital care managers/social workers, discharge liason nurses and other senior nurses actively involved in arranging hospital discharge, finance staff in both acute trusts and social services. Managers at all levels should be made aware of the new statutary responsibilities under the Act. Elected members of local authorities and NHS Trusts Boards should also be briefed about the principles and progress of implementation. The speakers notes can be read by saving this file to disc, then clicking "View"
and "Notes page"
in Powerpoint.
