Environments for Care at End of Life (ECEL)

On the 29th November 2007 Ivan Lewis, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Department of Health, announced £1,000,000 was to be made available to fund a new King’s Fund programme to improve enviornments for care at end of life.

This intitative follows a successful pilot programme focusing on end of life care during 2006/2007 and builds on the King’s Fund’s award winning  Enhancing the Healing Environment programme. Further details of the programme can be found at:

Trusts who join this new programme will be asked to nominate a  multidisciplinary team to undertake a King’s Fund development programme which will equip them with the skills and knowledge required to plan and manage their projects.  The Trust will receive a capital project allocation of £30,000 from the Department of Health towards their scheme. In addition Trusts will be asked to commit at least £10,000 of capital funding to their project. 

Applications are now invited from all NHS organisations that provide end of life care to adults to join the programme. Applications need to be made to the Department of Health by 22nd February 2008. Successful applicants will be advised in the w/c 10th March 2008.
