The National End of Life Care Programme aims to help support the Government's end of life care strategy – by promoting high quality care for all adults at the end of life, through sharing good practice in collaboration with local and national stakeholders.

The programme website contains information on a variety of aspects relating to end of life care, including over a hundred good practice case studies. These are taken from different care settings, such as care homes, hospitals, primary care and hospices and stages of the care pathway. They also cover engaging with users and carers, commissioning, strategic direction and knowledge and skills.

The programme builds on the work of the NHS End of Life Care Programme, which ran from 2004 to 2007. This SHA-led programme was supported by £12 million investment, and aimed to help enable people at the end of life to have more choice about where they can be cared for, and die.
