Specialist family services are provided for relatives and close friends of people with acquired brain injury (ABI) referred to the CHIS at Aylesbury PCT.
Services include:
- an annual series of educational workshops;
- follow-up workshops;
- individual career counselling and
- specialist counselling for couples and families.
The aims of Family Services, CHIS are:
- to increase awareness and understanding of the nature and effects of ABI;
- to provide information and advice about the management of ABI and
- to facilitate and promote positive coping and adjustment in family and friends.
The service has produced the following tools which they are willing to share:
- CHIS information pack (includes details of family services);
- relatives' educational programme and
- multi-agency, county-wide brain injury professional training workshop programme which includes a full day workshop on working with families (talks, illustrative video tape examples and practical small group work).
