Family Services, Community Head Injury Service (CHIS), Vale of Aylesbury

Specialist family services are provided for relatives and close friends of people with acquired brain injury (ABI) referred to the CHIS at Aylesbury PCT.

Services include:

  • an annual series of educational workshops;
  • follow-up workshops;
  • individual career counselling and
  • specialist counselling for couples and families.

The aims of Family Services, CHIS are:

  • to increase awareness and understanding of the nature and effects of ABI;
  • to provide information and advice about the management of ABI and
  • to facilitate and promote positive coping and adjustment in family and friends.

The service has produced the following tools which they are willing to share:

  • CHIS information pack (includes details of family services);
  • relatives' educational programme and
  • multi-agency, county-wide brain injury professional training workshop programme which includes a full day workshop on working with families (talks, illustrative video tape examples and practical small group work).
