STAR Project, Department of Neuropsychiatry, Whitchurch Hospital, Cardiff

The STAR Project covers South East Wales and aims to support people with acquired brain injury to access a variety of vocational opportunities, including voluntary work, education and training, and paid employment.

The service runs a 3 day programme each week, which includes:

  • work preparation group (13 topics over 16-week programme);
  • IT group;
  • individual emotional support provided by the liaison nurse;
  • voluntary work experience placement;
  • vocational profiling and
  • individual one-to-one sessions as required.

The service has developed a number of tools to support clients and staff, which they are willing to share:

  • in-house staff training, supported by core competencies for all disciplines;
  • group work;
  • workplace assessment;
  • health and safety training and
  • vocational profile.
