Modernising the NHS hospital medicines manufacturing service

The Implementation Plan and associated documents link the allocation of modernisation funding for hospital medicines manufacturing to clinical governance and to decisions that will bring about fundamental changes in the way that medicines are manufactured and supplied to patients within the NHS. Whilst capital investment may be necessary to implement some of the recommendations for the modernisation of manufacturing services, other changes may be effected without investment.

This document is intended for managers, pharmacists and others in NHS organisations who may be involved in the modernisation process and in the disbursement of associated earmarked capital. It includes details of the bidding process for £42m of earmarked central capital that will be available across 2004/05 and 2005/06.
