The 2009 Pharmaceutical Price Regulation Scheme (the scheme) is a non-contractual scheme which became effective on 1 January 2009. It replaced the 2008 PPRS, which was an interim scheme after the 2005 scheme ended. The parties to this agreement are the Department of Health, acting on behalf of the health departments of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (the ABPI).
The Department of Health issued a letter on 11 December 2008 to PPRS members and prospective scheme members with forms to complete for membership.
Letter to all PPRS scheme members and prospective scheme members about the agreement reached on the 2009 PPRS. The letter was issued jointly by Department of Health and Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry on 19 November 2008.
Paragraph 7.44.1 of the 2009 PPRS stipulates that scheme members will not be allowed to modulate products where the generic title is listed as Category C in Part VIII of the NHS England and Wales Drug Tariff and where there is more than one proprietary available. The list of products referred to at that paragraph for December 2008 can be found in the attached spreadsheet.
