A selection of over 100 of the 1250 people who took part in the original deliberative events attended the day, alongside health ministers such as Secretary of State for Health Patricia Hewitt, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Care Services Liam Byrne and Minister of State for Reform Lord Warner.
The event gave the ministers the opportunity to explain in depth the policies set out in the Our Health, Our Care, Our say White Paper published in January 2006.
It also gave them the chance to present how the Government had included many of the suggestions made by the public during the 2005 listening events into the White Paper.
Feedback from the public participants was generally positive
The public representatives were then asked to answer a number of questions to establish how much they believed their views had shaped the White Paper. There was also plenty of opportunity for open discussion with ministers.
Feedback from the public participants was generally positive, with the majority saying that they felt their recommendations had been acted on, and that similar listening events should be held in the future.
