City and Hackney PCT

Some 50,000 patients in north-east Hackney are likely to benefit from greater choice and improved access as a result of City and Hackney PCT taking part in the programme. Under the programme, the PCT aims to enable 3,000 patients to register with a GP by opening a new practice in an area where patients currently have the most difficulty seeing a doctor.

It also aims to offer patients greater choice by creating a new walk-in service as part of this new practice where they can get treatment without an appointment. The practice will provide a walk-in service in the evenings and at weekends for all residents in the north Hackney area as part of the PCT's strategy of expanding the ways in which patients can access primary care out of hours.

In addition, the new practice will provide a comprehensive range of enhanced primary care services including anti-coagulant monitoring, support for people coming off drugs, diabetic care, dermatological services, specialised sexual health services, case management for people with severe, long-term health problems and support for stopping smoking.

These services will be offered to the practice list and the patients of neighbouring practices which do not offer those services.

Benefits to patients include greater provision and choice of service; improved access to services including on an evening and weekends walk-in basis, and services closer to home.
