The PCT has also been working with the National Primary Care Research and Development Centre in Manchester. The centre is keen to undertake a piece of research with the PCT to establish the impact of APMS on service delivery and workforce issues.
The PCT is also keen to establish an Academic Unit which will provide a focus for increased research into catering for deprived communities, using the East Lancashire health economy as a ready made "research laboratory"
. In turn, this will provide opportunities to improve the health and well-being of the population using innovative new services, as well as providing increased opportunities to develop and attract clinicians with dual roles of clinical practice and academic research.
