Data for an individual Trust's Basket procedures can be displayed as a single bar chart, with each procedure's daycase rate compared against the national upper quartile rate, which is taken as a measure of reigning best practice. In the alternative case, for any given procedure, a Trust's daycase rate can be benchmarked against a user-defined peer group. 

The graphical information that can be produced using the tool is intended to help key day surgery stakeholders, such as clinicians, managers and commissioners to better understand what can be achievable as well as what the limitations to day surgery may be for a Trust with specific characteristics.

This is the first version of the Yardstick Day Surgery Benchmarking tool. The intention is for further versions to follow, incorporating new HES data as it becomes available and more advanced benchmarking features. Any views or comments that you have on this application or ideas for improvements are welcomed.
