Kennedy report

A report into the care of children receiving complex cardiac surgical services at the Bristol Royal Infirmary between 1984 and 1995.

KSF (Knowledge and Skills Framework)

The NHS KSF process involves managers working with individual members of staff to plan their training and development.

LAA

LDP

Learning disabilities

Disabilities that reduce a person's ability to understand new or complex information, learn new skills and cope independently.

Legislation

Primary and secondary legislation that relates to the Department of Health, the NHS and social care in England.

Liberating the talents

Document that looks at how the roles of nurses and midwives are changing as a result of the NHS Plan.

Life long learning

A training programme that equips NHS staff with the skills and knowledge to improve their careers.

LINks

Local Involvement Networks (LINks) are individuals and groups from across the community who are funded and supported to hold local health and social care services to account.

Local area agreements (LAAs)

Three year agreement that sets out the priorities for a local area in certain policy fields as agreed between government, local authority and other partners.

Local delivery plan (LDP)

A plan that every primary care trust (PCT) prepares and agrees with its strategic health authority (SHA) on how to invest its funds to meet its local and national targets, and improve services.

Local public service agreement (LPSA)

An agreement between a local authority and Government to improve services in return for extra funding.

Local strategic partnerships (LSPs)

Partnerships that bring together representatives from the public, private, voluntary and community sectors to deliver the Sustainable Community strategy and local area agreement.

Long term conditions

Conditions, such as diabetes, asthma and arthritis that cannot currently be cured, but whose progress can be managed and influenced by medication and other therapies.
