Extending Professional Regulation
This working group is chaired by Dr Moira Livingston who is a fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and has specialised in medical education for some years, working in the Northern Deanery as the dean director of foundation programme, with responsibility for implementing Modernising Medical Careers
Moira is the strategic head of workforce and deputy medical director at the North East Strategic Health Authority. Moira leads at a national level for the workforce directors on medical educational training matters; is a member of the Long Term Conditions Programme Board; currently chairs the National Diploma Development Partnership for the Health and Society Diploma for 14 to 19 year olds; and recently chaired the Education, Infrastructure and Regulation group for Lord Darzi’s NHS Review of England.
Summary
The Extending Professional Regulation Working Group will make recommendations about the criteria by which emerging health care roles will be judged to determine whether they should be regulated and to make recommendations about existing non-regulated healthcare roles.
The group met the first time on 21 November 2007 and will continue to meet on a regular basis until December 2008. Recommendations will be made to Ministers in December 2008.
