Social Care Information Policy is driven by wider objectives supporting the integration of health and social care services for adults. During the period up to 2010 efforts will be concentrated on supporting pilots and testing systems which enable health and local authority adult social care information systems to effectively communicate with each other. These will include pilots to support the Common Assessment Framework for Adults and Whole Systems Demonstrator sites to improve services for people with long term conditions.
Ministers have decided that the NHS number may be used in social care for the purpose of linking social care as well as NHS records. This statement sets out the policy on which the decision was based.
