David Nicholson highlights the achievements of the NHS over the last 12 months, and its future challenges in his first annual report.
NHS Direct staff have taken 16,000 calls a day on average
The key achievements include:
• a return to financial balance for the NHS, by delivering a surplus of £510 million
• more than 50,000 people being treated in A&E departments each day
• reducing cancer waiting times from diagnosis to treatment to one month
• a daily average of 900,000 GP patient consultations taking place.
The NHS Chief Executive outlines the priorities for the next 12 months, which include improving staff engagement and communications with patients and the public.
David Nicholson has released a video download to coincide with the report.
