The Pharmacy Regulation and Leadership Oversight Group is chaired by Ken Jarrold CBE who is a director of Dearden Consulting, a non-executive director of the Serious Organised Crime Agency and Chair of the County Durham Economic Partnership. Before joining Dearden Consulting in January 2006, he had a long and distinguished career in the NHS. This included three years as Director of Human Resources and Deputy Chief Executive of the NHS in England and nineteen years as a Chief Executive of a number of Health Authorities.
Ministers established the Pharmacy Regulation and Leadership Oversight Group (PRLOG) following their acceptance of all the recommendations of the Working Party on Professional Regulation and Leadership in pharmacy led by Lord Carter of Coles.
PRLOG’s primary purpose is to oversee the establishment of a new regulator for pharmacy – the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), advising Ministers accordingly. PRLOG will also advise Ministers on the maintenance of the current model of pharmacy regulation, as the GPhC is established, and will also identify how leadership in the pharmacy profession can best support the regulatory role and responsibilities of the GPhC.
