In the NHS, it has been unusual for the build and IM&T contracts to be combined. This continues to be the case, unsurprisingly, given the work of the National IT Procurement, and it is particularly important for build schemes to ensure that whatever IT is planned is compliant with the national programme, and that necessary IT infrastructure is included with the build - "up to the socket"
.
In addition, the use of PFI for IM&T procurements has been ruled out by HM Treasury's 'Meeting the Investment Challenge'. It is therefore expected that in future no IM&T will be procured via builds. The guidance on infrastructure therefore remains useful, and material on procuring IM&T outside build, but the material on procuring IM&T within build should be ignored.
