Strategic Health Asset Planning and Evaluation (SHAPE)

Strategic Health Asset Planning and Evaluation (SHAPE) is a web-based, planning software application aimed primarily at Strategic Health Authorities (SHAs) and Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) to inform and support delivery of service reconfiguration within a whole health economy in England.  Built on careful analysis and up-to-date information, SHAPE provides an excellent starting point for local strategic planning development and can inform the vital dialogue commissioners may wish to have with providers and other stakeholders, including patients, which lies at the heart of any service redesign initiative.

SHAPE provides SHAs and PCTS with a unique and comprehensive, robust, evidence-based resource system, bringing together existing national data sets of clinical activity, human geography and healthcare estate assets, supported by Geographical Information Systems (GIS) technology.  In addition, the scenario planning features can help planners to determine the service configuration that provides the best affordable access to care
