The National Prevention Research Initiative (NPRI) invites proposals for NPRI-3.
The Department of Health is a funding partner of this initiative to supports research on behaviours associated with significant risks to health, such as poor diet, physical inactivity, smoking and alcohol consumption, and on the environmental factors that influence those behaviours. The deadline for receipt of outline proposals is 18 September 2008.
The Department of Health’s Policy Research Programme (PRP) in collaboration with Comic Relief invites proposals for research into the abuse, neglect and loss of dignity of older people in institutional care. An online Registration of Interest (ROI) is required by 12 noon, Monday 23 June 2008. Successful applicants will be asked to submit a full proposal by 5.00pm Wednesday 27 August 2008.
The Health Technology Assessment (HTA) programme invites proposals on various topics for Primary Research and Evidence Synthesis. The closing date for applications is Wednesday 30 July 2008, 1pm.
The Health Technology Assessment (HTA) programme invites proposals for Clinical Trials to assess the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of health technologies in NHS practice. The closing date for applications is Tuesday 21 October 2008, 1pm.
The NIHR is establishing a new School for Social Care Research (SSCR). The aim of the School will be to increase the evidence-base for adult social care practice. Researchers working on DH funded programmes in the social care field (one per academic institution) are invited to submit a short statement of eligibility. The closing date for submitting a statement of eligibility is 12.00pm, 13 June 2008.
The NIHR invites applications for the second competition for Senior Investigators from leading DH and NIHR Investigators who are making outstanding contribution to research in health and social care The closing date for applications is 28 July 2008.
The Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) programme invites proposals for quantitative or qualitative research into Health and Public Health Services. The date for submitting a Registration of Intention (ROI) to apply is 5.00 pm Tuesday 12 August 2008 and the application closing date is 23 September 2008.
The SDO Programme is commissioning research on several themes concerned with management practice in healthcare organisations. A maximum of £3.5m is available for research in this area. The closing date for submition of outline proposals is 1pm, Wednesday 11 June 2008.
The SDO Programme is commissioning research in Technology adoption in the NHS (Ref: TA248) and National Technology Adoption Hub (Ref: TA253). There will be approximately £1.6 million available for research in these areas.

Clinical Lectureships are available for people who are advanced in their specialty training, have completed a research doctorate or equivalent and show outstanding potential for continuing a career in academic medicine or dentistry. Those who hold a National Training Number (NTN) and a PhD or MD are eligible to apply. Applications can be made between 1 April 2008 and 31 March 2009.
Academic Clinical Fellowships in Dentistry are available to dentists in the early stages of specialty training who can demonstrate outstanding potential for development as a clinical academic in research and/or education. The RCD website will direct applicants to the relevant deanery(ies) websites. The deaneries will confirm the availability of posts and agree the deadline for application submission.
