NHS Immunisation Statistics, England: 2000-01

This bulletin summarises information about uptake of immunisation, primarily childhood immunisations, and about numbers of vaccinations given in England in 2000-01, including some information about earlier years.

Key Facts

  • Immunisation coverage for the cohort of children reaching their second birthday in 2000-01 was at about the same level as the coverage for the previous cohort.

In 2000-01:

  • about 94.5% of children had been immunised against diphtheria, tetanus and polio by their second birthday
  • about 94% of 2 year olds had been immunised against Haemophilus influenzae b, 94% against pertussis and 87% against measles, mumps and rubella
  • about 257,000 school leavers received reinforcing doses against diphtheria, tetanus and polio
  • about 79,000 tuberculin skin tests were administered, mostly to children aged 10-15; about 12% tested positive
  • about 137,000 persons, including 70,000 infants aged under 1, were given BCG vaccinations against tuberculosis
