Chief health professions officer Kay East was one of the key speakers at a conference discussing practice education within the health and social care field.
Best practice for practice educators: hints, tips and innovations in practice education attracted more than 100 practice educators and academics to Canterbury's Christchurch University for the one-day event.
Kay discussed the NHS Improvement Plan and how it has increased the number of both professional and assistant grade staff.
Several practice educators also spoke, each offering an insight into the similarities and differences.
Afternoon workshops reviewed information raised during the morning session to identify challenges and develop a set of suggestions for practice education.
Among the challenges were:
- using time effectively to ensure high quality education and mentoring
- standardising quality and expectations of students
- ensuring interprofessional education is promoted in placement settings
- data protection and confidentiality when sharing information about students.
