Roadshows on chronic disease management

A series of roadshows organised by the Department of Health and the NHS Modernisation Agency will outline new methods of chronic disease management.

There will be workshops on the role and function of advanced primary nurses and how to identify suitable patients as well as examples of best practice.

Targeted at GPs, nurses and modernisation leads the events are free.

The roadshows are at:

  • Manchester, The Palace Hotel - 3 June
  • Bristol Thistle Hotel - 4 June
  • Newcastle, Holiday Inn Seaton Burn - 9 June
  • London Novotel London West -11 June
  • Birmingham NEC - 16 June

GPs with special interests

A conference on reducing waiting lists by delivering enhanced services in primary care is to be held at Earls Court Conference Centre, London on 22 June.

It will look specifically at how GPs with Special Interests can improve patient care, reduce the strain on acute trusts and aid GP retention.

The speakers will be: Michael Scott, director for service improvement, NHS Modernisation Agency; Peter Smith, chairman of the National Association of Primary Care; and Paul Zollinger-Read, chief executive of Witham, Braintree and Halstead Care Trust.

Improving working lives for doctors conference

The second annual IWL for Doctors Conference will take place on 6  December 2004. Doctors in the NHS have been asked to identify, through completion of a survey, what issues still need to be addressed to improve their working lives.

The results of the survey will form the agenda for the conference.
