Finance training

Finance training will be available across the country before the end of the year.

This will be provided by the Healthcare Financial Management Association. There are two programmes - an introduction to finance and financial governance. Remaining introduction events are 17 June in Liverpool, 23 September in London and 14 October in Milton Keynes. The governance events are 25 September in Swindon, 16 October in Durham, 11 November in London and 13 November in Leicester.

This cost is £79 instead of the normal £284. The standard of training is excellent and places are still available. To enquire about dates and availability contact the HFMA on 0117 929 4795.

Governance issues

After the Chairs' Conference in September, there is to be a programme of training in governance issues for board members. There will be seven local events in addition to four larger events specifically for chairs of audit committees.

Specific skills and awareness

With regard to specific skills/awareness training, the new Local Training Bodies will be in a position to organise networking as appropriate and roll out other nationally identified events. Examples of this are commissioning primary care; the role of the board in patient and public involvement; complaints and ambulance service awareness.

Appraisal and recruitment training for chairs

A second tranche of appraisal training for chairs who were unable to attend the first round of training will take place in the autumn. It will take account of comments and evaluation made at the March events. Once the competency-based recruitment system is finalised, training will also take place for that.
