3. Interim Chief Executive for NHS London (Gateway reference number: 7012)

NHS London announced, yesterday, the appointment of Ruth Carnall OBE as interim Chief Executive to oversee the new Strategic Health Authority. Mrs Carnall will take up her new post from 1 September, which means David Nicholson can take up his new post as NHS Chief Executive with the Department of Health from 4 September. 4. NHS Care Records Service – Summary Record Early Adopters (Gateway reference number: 7000)

NHS Connecting for Health is seeking a number of PCTs to participate in the early adopter implementation of the NHS Summary Record. The early adopters will focus on the GP Summary element of the Summary Record, enabling it to be shared with appropriate healthcare professionals within a PCT area. 5. NHS Financial Performance 2006-07: Quarterly Report (Gateway reference number: 7008)

The Secretary of State has today published the first quarterly report on NHS financial performance in 2006-07. This shows that the NHS is broadly on course to deliver net financial balance; though each organisation still in deficit must continue making the difficult decisions needed to maintain services to patients whilst restoring financial balance. 6. RTT Measurement - Approaches launched by 18 week Pioneers (Gateway reference number: 6999)

Duncan Selbie wrote to SHA chief executives on 4 August to explain how DH has been working with 18 weeks Pioneer sites to develop ‘Tactical Approaches’ to RTT measurement. The NHS will need to start to implement this as soon as possible, as per mandating DSCN (17/2006). See:
