1. Reconfiguration of NHS Ambulance Trusts - implications for protocols (Gateway reference number: 7097)

A letter has been issued by Richard Bradshaw, Director of Prison Health and Michael Spurr, Director of Operations for HM Prison Service informing Prison Governing Governors of the reconfiguration of NHS Ambulance Trusts and to remind them to ensure updated protocols with the new trusts are in place.

3. Re-registration required for all Secondary Uses Service Users (SUS) (Gateway reference number: 7159)

New functionality and information governance rules requiring changes to the operation of role based access controls within SUS come into effect on 15 October 2006. Guidance is available on actions Trusts, PCTs and Shared Service providers should take to re-register users. See:

4. Dispensary Services Quality Payment (DSQP) (Gateway reference number: 7030)

The new DSQP was negotiated between NHS Employers and the GPC as part of the 2006/07 changes to the GMS Contract. The associated payment procedures have now been incorporated into the GMS Statement of Financial Entitlements. The amendment is available at:

6. Contingency Planning for Blood Shortages - development of a platelet plan (Gateway reference number: 6514)

Following the distribution of the integrated plan for cell shortages (Gateway ref: 3344), the CMO’s National Blood Transfusion Committee has developed an extension to the red cell plan to cover platelet shortages. It is expected that hospital Emergency Blood Management Groups will be responsible for developing these arrangements locally. See:
