Policy news

1. Equal pay claims (Gateway reference number: 8624)

At its meeting on 26th June, the NHS Management Board decided that it was timely to convey strong and clear messages on equal pay to trust boards. These are on the web sites of the NHS Litigation Authority/ NHS Employers.

Action: CEs and their Boards are asked to promote the advice on handling equal pay claims and encourage compliance with the advice.

2. Bids invited for ‘early adopter sites’ (Gateway reference number: 8630)

The overall aim of each bid will be to expedite implementation of Maternity Matters by developing capacity and capability in local health and social care economies. 

Action: Chief executives are asked to support bids from their local maternity networks.

3. Update on PbR data assurance framework  (Gateway reference number: 8649)

Assure is the first of a series of quarterly national updates from the Audit Commission, providing news of the delivery of the Payment by Results (PbR) data assurance framework. The newsletter outlines future developments, emerging issues and best practice examples from the national clinical coding audits.

Action:  Improve clinical coding with this advice and access national benchmarking data drawn from Secondary Uses Service.

4. Embedding the Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF) (Gateway reference number: 8546)

The following letter emphasises how the benefits of the Agenda for Change can be realised by effective implementation of the KSF. Correctly implementing the KSF will allow staff to work towards a modern NHS that puts the needs of patients first.

Action: Promote the KSF tool to aid staff development and improve service delivery.

5. Free e-learning module on preventing C.difficile  (Gateway reference number: 8645)

Produced by the British Medical Journal, this practical tool for preventing C.difficile infection is based on experience at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Trust.

Action: Use this free interactive module to help you reduce infection rates.

6. Which procurement route is best for you? (Gateway reference number: 8673)

The Department of Health has summarised ProCure21’s key benefits in this document specially produced for trust chief executives, finance directors and trust boards.

Action: Use the information when considering procurement routes for capital schemes.

7. Senior Responsible Officer Masterclass (Gateway reference number: 8674)

The masterclass, Driving Digital: Responding to the leadership challenge, aims to equip PCT chief executives with the knowledge and understanding of the resources needed to deliver the National Programme for IT (NPfIT). It takes place on Monday 1 October at the Microsoft London (Cardinal Place).

Action:  Read the information and book online using the above link. If unable to attend, offer the place to either your PEC Chair or Chair of the Board.
