1. Best practice for adult medium-secure services (Gateway reference number: 7933)

The document sets out quality principles, specifications and high-level indicators for all medium-secure services. It also clarifies the performance framework underpinning the quality principles.

Action: Chief executives and PCT commissioners should be aware that medium-secure services commissioners will use the guidance to assist them to designate these services.

2. Patient safety incident reports (Gateway reference number: 8744)

The National Patient Safety Agency has released The National Reporting and Learning System Data Summary - Issue Five, following 242,595 incident reports received by the Agency between 1 April and 30 June 2007.  Detailed analysis of 727,736 incidents reported between April 2006 and March 2007 is also presented.

Action: Read the report to increase your awareness of the rates and levels of harm caused by various incidents.

3. Commissioning for No Delays: new products (Gateway reference number: 8728)

The NHS Institute No Delays Priority Programme is launching three new products to aid commissioners in their role of delivering and sustaining the 18-week pathway. These products are supported by a programme of workshops and web conferences during September and October.

Action: Chief executives wishing to attend should check details of dates and availability. 

4. Expert speakers for managing complex change event (Gateway reference number: 8737)

NHS Integrated Service Improvement Programme (ISIP) has organised this key event, in London on 4 October, to explore the experience and expectations of healthcare reform. Speakers include Paul Corrigan (NHS London), Peter Bradley (London Ambulance) and Marianne Griffiths (NHS South East Coast).

Action: Demand for this event will be high and early booking is recommended.
