In May 2006, Patricia Hewitt announced additional funding of £27 million for voluntary hospice services over the next three years. The Secretary of State also commissioned an independent review into the state of children and young people’s palliative care services in England - to look at current provision and consider what more can be done to improve the sustainability and accessibility of services in both the statutory and voluntary sectors.
The review is due to report its conclusions, by way of a published report in May 2007.
