The NHS Number has refreshed its programme of work to build upon and provide further support, guidance and assistance to healthcare organisations in achieving complete adoption of the NHS Number. By taking up the NHS Number as the national identifier for patients, organisations will significantly improve safety by ensuring that patients are correctly identified. Professor Sir Bruce Keogh, NHS Medical Director will be acting as Senior Responsible Owner (SRO) of this programme, and states that healthcare organisations must make sure that they have the necessary measures in place for safe, secure transfer of clinical information
